What to do with all those balls?

Being parents of very active and athletic boys we seem to have sport equipment everywhere.  You should see the trunk of my car!  It seemed like we were tripping over balls on the back porch.  Richard had be searching the web for a "ball holder"/ sports equipment holder and hadn't found one that would work for our family.  On a trip to Toys R Us, he noticed that they had a cage that was made with bungee cords to hold the playground ball they were selling.  This spurred on his idea for the equipment holder for us.  The two of us worked together to tweak the plans and this is the finished product!

Monster Tooth Pillow

A few weeks ago, Blake got his first wiggly tooth. I decided that was a good opportunity to get my sewing machine back out. When I was a child I had a tooth pillow, and I wanted to make one for him. I was searching on Pinterest (Who doesn't love Pinterest?) and saw a super cute Monster Tooth Pillow. I decided this was the right thing for my guy!

I let Blake search through my fabric drawer and pick out 3 fabrics that he liked. I then set to work...

As you can see I used one fabric for the body, one for the mouth, and the third to make a hanger.  I also added teeth and eyes.  I decided to put a hanger on the pillow because Blake is all over the place when he sleeps and I figured the tooth fairy would have a much easier time finding the tooth pillow if it was hung on his bed post.  The mouth doubles a a pocket to put the tooth in and of course the prize from the tooth fairy too.

And so it begins...

If you followed my blog Teacher Turned Mommy, not as easy as it sounds, you probably have seen some of the things that Richard and I have made over the years. I love being able to envision something and then make it come to life. Sometimes it involves the sewing machine, sometimes it's food and other times it's just art projects with the boys. Richard tends to make the practical things we need in life, but puts his own twist on it.

I will use this blog to share the creative things that happen in our house. You can hear about our garden (which Richard built and I tend), the crafts I do with and without the boys, the fun things I cook and bake, and well... who knows what else.

I already have a few posts rolling around my head and my camera. Watch for pictures a ball/sports equipment holder that Richard made, a monster tooth pillow, and my latest art project, straw painting, with the boys.

We hope to inspire you to jump on the creative bandwagon too!

(and yes, I will be making the topper and blog stuff a bit more creative soon too... I can't be dull, can I?)
